My transition is almost complete. I have found a beautiful apartment within walking distance to campus. “Henry” has acted as my caution and overall champion during the verification process. My morning began with a tempered email to the accounts payable department of my home university. They have delayed my funding on three different occasions (8/13, 8/20, 8/28). I left the U.S. on August 29th. The deposit was placed on September 1 with a grace period of three business days. Today is day three, move in day and a bank holiday. With my personal funds in free fall, I stressed for days about being able to deliver the first payment.
“Henry” text me to say he had just spoke with my proprietor. I don’t know exactly what he said, but she told me not to worry “anytime over the next few days is fine”…. I did not ask him to contact her, which makes it even more powerful. Sensing my anxiety, he stepped in, and managed the situation with out me asking. I don’t know what he said to her, but her disposition shifted immediately. Of course he down played the entire thing, saying “Oh she just needed to speak to someone in French, it’s simple”.
“Henry” and I have not seen one another in almost six years. In the past week, he has introduced me to his cousin, who graciously invited me for dinner and referred me to the proprietor. He has fortified my social circle and secured my environment extinguishing the fires before I can feel the heat.
“Relax, tell me what you need and I will handle it”.
This man has never touched me, we are friends, but this is the way it should be done. I am forever thankful for his power, grace and presence.
